Digital nomads: everything you need to know

Imagem1

With the new technological demands, more and more people are joining online work. This premise was even stronger due to the new coronavirus pandemic, and working away from the offices has been the new scenario in the corporate world.

At the same time, many also take advantage of their passion for travel and combine this desire with their professional projects. The result is digital nomads – professionals who work from anywhere in the world and use this flexibility to travel as long as they have the necessary material, such as a laptop, in addition to easy access to an internet connection.

WHAT IS THE DIGITAL NOMAD?

Digital nomadism is a trend of behavior in much of the world. People's relationship with work has changed, allowing many to decide which city to live in, regardless of where their company operates. The increase in the number of people working remotely aroused the interest of many countries in attracting the figure of the digital nomad, as the possibility of exercising their activities from different locations can contribute to the movement of the local economy. Some cities are friendlier to receive digital nomads: low cost of living, good infrastructure, fast internet and other issues, such as language, weigh on the choice.

DIGITAL NOMADS IN BRAZIL

In January 2022, the Brazil National Immigration Council of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security granted a specific visa for digital nomads.

The foreigner who has the possibility of working remotely, and wants to have the experience of residing in another country, can choose Brazil as a destination. This is because this new visa category allows the person to stay in the country for one year, and can be extended for another year.

WHERE TO ENTER THE DIGITAL NOMAD VISA?

The person who intends to establish temporary residence in Brazil must go to the nearest Brazilian embassy.

For foreigners who are already in Brazil, the digital nomad visa can be applied for online by MigranteWeb, a system of the Ministry of Justice.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DIGITAL NOMAD VISA IN BRAZIL

To obtain this visa it is necessary to meet the following requirements:

  • ·Proof of financial stability;

The migrant who wants the digital nomad visa needs to meet the same requirements mentioned above.

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF THE DIGITAL NOMAD VISA IN BRAZIL

The official document does not include the value of the fees for issuing the digital nomad visa in Brazil. Each location has a different regulation on value, and it can even be free.

In case of doubt this information will be passed along with the other conditions at the Brazilian embassy.

SOME CITIES IN BRAZIL ADAPTED FOR DIGITAL NOMADS

Since last year the governments of some cities are developing methods to encourage the arrival of digital nomads, some of them are:

Rio de Janeiro

The first city that comes to anyone's mind when it comes to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro is one of the main tourist choices in the country.

However, Rio de Janeiro already has a new tourism program, the Digital Nomads Program, which encourages long-term entrepreneurs and executives who work at a distance. The initiative aims to place the wonderful city as the hub of digital nomads in Latin America. So far there are 56 hotels, 14 hostels and 18 coworking spaces registered in Rio ready to receive these remote workers.

Fortaleza

With 2.6 million inhabitants, Fortaleza is a well-structured city, has great restaurants, hotels with inviting prices and is a destination that allows not only the tour of the capital itself, but also serves as a support to visit cities on the coast of Ceará, such as Jericoacoara and Canoa Quebrada.

Ceará continues to structure itself in relation to infrastructure. The technological hub has boosted investments in this area. The state has 140,000 kilometers of fiber optics. Data from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) show that Ceará is the fourth with the best percentage of access in the country, behind only Roraima, Amapá and Piauí. In addition, it is the second highest average connection speed in the Northeast, after Piauí. That is, there is an environment conducive to receiving digital nomads.

We can see that in recent years the methodology in the work system has changed, forcing everyone to adapt to it. In Brazil it is not being different, although there is still much to evolve, it is already noted that this theme is seen with good eyes by cities.
